Go on a trekking adventure through the Bale Mountains in Ethiopia. This 4 Days adventure deep into the heart of Bale Mountains National Park. Your journey begins with a leisurely afternoon hike upon arrival, offering the chance to spot unique wildlife like Menelik’s Bushbuck and the Mountain Nyala.
The following days will be filled with breathtaking treks through stunning landscapes, with opportunities to encounter the endangered Ethiopian Wolf and a variety of bird species. Hike through diverse terrains, from the dramatic escarpments to lush woodlands, with each day culminating in a scenic campsite amidst the majestic Bale Mountains.
Begin the journey with an early morning drive from Addis Ababa to Dinsho, the main entrance to Bale Mountains National Park, approximately 400 km (6–7 hours). Along the way, enjoy the scenic highlands of the Oromia Region.
Arrive at Dinsho in the afternoon, the park’s primary entry point, which is renowned for its wildlife, including the endangered Ethiopian wolf, kudu, antelopes, and bushbuck.
Spend the night in a lodge or camp near the park’s entrance.

Start your trek from Dinsho to the beautiful Habera Waterfall, located in a lush forested area. The moderate trekking route takes you through verdant forests teeming with birdlife and unique flora. The waterfall provides a serene spot for rest and exploration.

Trek from Habera Waterfall to Gebre Guracha, passing through spectacular landscapes. Along the way, discover endemic bird species and wildlife such as Ethiopian wolves and giant mole rats.
Gebre Guracha, a high-altitude lake located at around 3,200 meters above sea level, offers stunning views. This part of the trek is both challenging and rewarding, with alpine meadows and dramatic scenery.

Continue your trek to the Sanete Plateau, Ethiopia’s second-highest point at 4,377 meters. The plateau provides breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, featuring diverse terrain ranging from grassy meadows to rocky ridges.
This area is ideal for birdwatching and wildlife observation, offering an unforgettable experience for seasoned trekkers.

Dedicate the day to exploring the Harenna Forest, trekking deeper into its dense vegetation or discovering its isolated waterfalls and caves. Known for its incredible biodiversity, the forest is home to endemic species such as the Bale monkey and various medicinal plants.
The unique ecosystems of the Harenna Forest make it a vital habitat for wildlife and bird species.
Spend the night camping in the nearby Rira village.
In the morning, leave the Harenna Forest and the Bale Mountains National Park, beginning the drive back to Addis Ababa. Enjoy the picturesque Ethiopian landscape en route, passing through charming towns, farmlands, and the Rift Valley lakes. Arrive in Addis Ababa in the late afternoon.
